The boat is solidly built, has a heavy displacement with a fin keel and is ketch rigged, making her easy to handle and comfortable even in heavier weather.
Mikado is fully equipped for living aboard and being completely independent no matter if you are in the hot or cold corners of our planet.
Anchored in tropical waters: The fully covered cockpit gives a nice protection from the sun. The front of the sprayhood can be opened to allow for a nice breeze through the cockpit giving you a nice place to relax and spend the time.

Construction:
- Solid hand laid GRP below waterline

- Hull to deck joint is a shoebox inward turning flange on 7”centers and glassed over, capped with a teak rub strake.
- Marine plywood bulkheads bonded and glassed to the hull
- Decking professionally finished with non-skid paint (kiwi grip applied in 2023)

Interior
- Center cockpit: Gives you a nice shelter and protects you well in all weather conditions even if it gets rough outside.
- Layout: Two cabin, one head. Cabinetry and joinery of high quality, varnished mahogany with satin finish.
- Salon: Center dinette leaf table, port and starboard settees, double as sea berths with lee cloth. Tons of storage space in cabinets, under and behind settees and under floor.
- Headroom: 1.95m (6’5”), gives even taller persons a standup cabin.
- Galley: U- shaped with a large sink, 8 cabinets to store pots and pans and a cutlery drawer. Pressurized water system with fresh and saltwater. Separate tap with filter system to provide you with safe and tasty drinking water.
- Stove: Propane 3 burner stove with oven.
- Fridge: 1 top loading fridge and one fridge/freezer
- Owner’s cabin: located aft, Custom double matrass to port with storage underneath the bed and overhead hatch, L-shaped settee with storage underneath. Vanity with sink. Several large storage lockers, book cabinet and
extra shelving. - Guest cabin: Forward V-berth with shelving on either side and overhead hatch
- Head: forward to port, manual marine toilet, shower with draining floor, vanity with deep sink. Storage in 4 shelved large lockers.
- Navigation station: Chart table to starboard, full size front facing with storage underneath and under seat. Tank meters, temperature gauges, barograph, battery status for house bank and starter battery provided by a philippi battery monitor.
Technology
- Engine: Volkswagen 4 cylinder Marine engine with 54hp / 40kw and 6300hrs.
- Timing belt changed with 6000hrs. Regular oil, filters, belts, zincs, impellor changes.
- Fuel System: 280L main tank plus a 30 liter daily use tank. Fuel is transferred with an electrical pump and filtered before it reaches the daily use tank. Before reaching the engine it is filtered another time to avoid any contamination.
- Driveshaft: Encapsulated prop shaft with cutlass bearing, stuffing box.
- Propeller: 4 blade varioprop for maximum performance and efficiency under engine and sail. The original fixed 3 blade bronze prop is still on board as a spare.

Water maker
Schenker Smart 30: Due to it ́s energy recovery system it has a very low power requirement of only 110Watt and fits therefore perfectly into the electrical system of Mikado. It provides more than enough water for the boat only on solar panels meaning you have no need to run the engine to produce water.

- Portabote Alpa Series 10: Un-destroyable folding boat which needs only minutes to fold and can be perfectly stowed on Mikado ́s deck.
- Yamaha 4hp 2 stroke outboard. More or less new. Has enough power to bring the tender to plane with 2 persons and is very light for easy handling. With it ́s external tank it gives a very good range and longer distances are no problem at all
